Personal growth requires a little exploration, trial and error, and a wee bit of commitment. Some creativity helps the development of ideas. Then there’s the planning, training and motivation that helps you reach your goals. But what if you don’t know what your goals are? I didn’t know I would be sitting here writing this blog 5 years ago! Everything just developed in a natural, progressive way.
Through my own personal health and wellness journey, I discovered that getting back to eating real, whole food and treating yourself with a little love and kindness can turn your health around. I’m not just talking about treating diseases, these things also help you sleep better and think clearer giving you more energy and feeling more enthusiastic about life in general. After 20 years of nursing I discovered I no longer wanted to be the person who keeps people alive with antibiotics, medication and surgeries. Yes, modern medicine plays a major role in emergency health care, but I have learnt that what we eat, how we manage our stress levels and move our bodies can turn a health crisis on its ear and out the door! There are many people I’ve learnt from through the courses I’ve done, podcasts I listen to and finding a community of people looking to positively change themselves and those around them…some are changing the world!
Firstly I started listening to podcasts where you can find out anything you want to know. My fave’s are part of the Wellness Couch which is where I discovered Cyndi O’Meara, Kim Morrison and Carren Smith who do the Up For A Chat podcast. There are plenty more here, and the beauty of The Wellness Couch is that even though they have lots of different podcasts linked to them, none of them double up, they all have a different focus.
After some time of self-learning and deciding to make a shift from nursing, I came across the Functional Nutrition Course developed by Cyndi O’Meara, Nutritionist, author, speaker and amazing lady! This is what changed my life. This gave me the tools to create change and how to help others do the same. You don’t have to do what I’ve done and turn it into a career, the information you learn is life changing for you and the people around you. It’s the ripple effect!
As with many other students, the contact with Cyndi and her team, lead me to other avenues, like to Carren Smith, who has an amazing story and through her experiences she has created a new meaning to life through changing her mindset. She is an incredible speaker, business woman and so, so funny! I completed Carren’s Mindset Mastery course, which has now been overhauled and renamed The Effortless Self, where you learn to find happiness and reach your goals by allowing yourself to expand and grow. It’s something I think everyone needs to experience and understand. Learning how to challenge my beliefs about myself and others has helped me live each day in the present and how to turn my frustrations into constructive assessments of a given situation….or to just let things go!
Never ever have I considered myself a confident public speaker, nor the inclination to pursue that line of work, but through completing these courses I found a part of me thought that maybe I could do it! So I found myself signing up for Carren’s Speakers Fast Trak. I believe there have been changes in this course, but definitely was a valuable learning experience that I hope to use to grow my business over time….because I’m really in no rush these days!!
Lastly, but by no means the least, was my experience with Kim Morrison from Twenty8 Essentials that has helped me get to where I am today. I had seen all three of these ladies speak at the Wellness Summit, hosted by the Wellness Guys, and immediately had a little girl crush on Kim! I found her so inspiring, motivating and a wee bit fun! Everything I had learnt added to my little repertoire of skills and knowledge, but I knew that Kim’s Health and Lifestyle Education Program would be the cherry on top! With my nursing background, I always leant towards the scientific, evidence based learning that I got from the Functional Nutrition Course. Carren’s Mindset Mastery helped me overcome some of the limitations I put on myself and then Kim has taught me how to nurture and care for myself so I can be the best mum, wife and friend that I can. The Health and Lifestyle Education program is also where I’ve learnt about the power of essential oils and how to use them in my everyday life to bring about calm or pick me up when I’m lethargic or stressed……again, that doesn’t happen too often anymore!! We live such busy lives and many people have forgotten how to take a breath and some time out to fill our love buckets so we have more to give back.
All that I’ve learnt these last few years has taught me the importance of having goals to keep me on track in life and being grateful for all I have. I now have something I’m working towards and that is to show people how little changes in life can make a big difference. We spend so much time worrying about other people’s business and not enough about our own so it’s time to turn that around, bit by bit.
What can you do differently?
I’ve made a list under Links of the people I follow, books I recommend, courses I’ve done and more.
